In a new research paper published by Pakistan Security Research Unit (PSRU), INSCT Visiting Professor Isaac Kfir
notes that "over the past year, more and more American
policymakers as well as senior military personnel have pointed to Pakistan's failure to
deal with radicals in its midst as well as point an accusing finger at such agencies as
the ISI. Pakistan on the other hand, feels that Washington's demands are excessive
and do not reflect Pakistan's sacrifices, especially in terms of fighting al-Qaida,
in which hundreds of its soldiers have died...

Weak States and Global Threats: What Are the Connections?

Particularly since 9/11, it has been commonplace to assert that the
main threats to the United States and the world community emanate
less from great powers than from weak and failing states. Yet
surprisingly little empirical research has investigated the precise
connections between weak governance in the developing world and
today’s main transnational threats.
Please join author Stewart Patrick, senior fellow at the Council on
Foreign Relations, who will summarize the arguments of his
forthcoming book, Weak Links: Fragile States, Global Threats, and
International Security (Oxford University Press).

Asaf Shariv assumed the post of Consul General of Israel in New York
in August 2007. Immediately prior to his appointment, he was the
Director of Media and Public Affairs to Prime Ministers Ehud Olmert
and Ariel Sharon. As the Prime Minsters’ personal media advisor and
member of the Senior Staff, his responsibilities included
supervising the Government’s Press Office and Advertising Bureau. He
was also the spokesman for various government agencies, such as the
Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations (Mossad), the
Atomic Energy Committee, the National Security Committee and the
Counter-Terrorism Unit. Moderated by Miriam F. Elman, Political
Science, and sponsored by the Project on Democracy in the Middle
East.
