CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
A Certificate of Advanced Study in Security Studies is available to graduate students and a Certificate in National Security and Counterterrorism Law is available to law students who have prepared themselves as professionals in the expanding fields of national and international security and counter terrorism.
Both certificates give students a solid understanding of: - U.S. national security law and policy making pre and post 9/11; - the diverse threats to national security including drugs, crime, terrorism, and ethnic conflicts; - the nature of the international security environment, regimes, and institutions; - U.S. and international responses to terrorism, including law enforcement, military, intelligence, and diplomatic approaches to counterterrorism; and - the challenges involved in preparing for and responding to threats to the U.S. homeland.
Students pursuing a security studies certificate collaborate with students and faculty from a range of disciplines (including public administration, international relations, political science, law, communications, anthropology, and history), as well as experts working in the field. This gives students the opportunity to employ, and appreciate the need for, an interdisciplinary approach to the security problems we face today.
Congratulations to the 2008 graduates who earned security studies certificates.
This year 23 law students will graduate with a Certificate in National Security and Counterterrorism Law and 28 graduate students will be graduating with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Security Studies.
