Resilience and Sustainability in the Context of
Stability, Reconstruction and Transition Operations
Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI),
U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA
August 26-27, 2009
On August 26-27, INSCT participated in a two-day, joint
research conference hosted by the U.S. Army's
Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI),
located at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle
Barracks, PA. This collaboration explored the topics of
Resilience and Sustainability in the context of
Post-conflict Reconstruction, Stability and Transition
Operations. This event is an extension of INSCT's
ongoing Project on Resilience and Security. Conference
participants include INSCT research staff and faculty
such as Nick Armstrong, Keli Perrin, Pat Longstaff and
Bruce Dayton. The results of this conference will be
presented in a forthcoming joint publication by the two
institutes.
Measuring Resilience and Adaptive Capacity for
Local Populations
After Armed Conflict
or Natural Disasters
Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY
January 16-17, 2009
On January 16-17, 2009, INSCT hosted an
interdisciplinary workshop gathering scholars and
practitioners in the fields of international
development, emergency management, and defense with
interest in the topic of resilience in conflict and
disaster settings. The workshop is a vital first step
in a larger effort to understand the underlying causal
factors that impact society’s ability to recover from a
major conflict or disaster. The inherent complexity of
these societal problems spans across many traditional
disciplines, demonstrating a need for an
interdisciplinary approach to the advancement of
knowledge on this pressing topic.
